"A hamburger, fries, and a Coke… and change back from your dollar!" It's been a long time since that ad slogan was true. These days there seems to be less and less you can get for a dollar. To be sure, there are value menus and fast food chains and no shortage of dollar and 99 cent stores. But can you really get value for that dollar? If you are a Lightroom user (and I suspect your are) then have a look at the Adobe Dollar Store. Here, you can get some bang for your buck.
Adobe Dollar Store is a new site that really shows some promise. Jill Levenhagen is the entrepreneur photographer behind the site. Jill says she "love[s] photography and editing and just about anything creative!" While the site is still very new there are some nice templates to be had there. And yes, each is a mere $1.00. Here are a couple of samples from Jill's collection. (You can click the thumbnails for a larger version to view.)
I know what some of you are thinking. "Why should I pay Jill a dollar when I can create any of these myself?" I have no doubt you could but ask yourself what your time is worth. If you are a busy successful photographer and you need to get some layouts ready for a Senior package or an Engagement shoot why not spend a dollar or two and get a nice layout from Jill? You can use these over and over again and you don't have to spend the time fidgeting with layout settings in the Print Module. I think it's a great division of creative labor.
All of Jill's templates work in either Lightroom 3 or Lightroom 4. If there is something you want to alter go right ahead. These are not locked down in any way and can just as easily be a starting point for your custom layout or used as is.
I am a big fan of people who find ways to be creative and entrepreneurial. I believe we should encourage these endeavors whenever we can. Jill has plans for more templates and some other offerings as the site matures. So why not stop by and pick up a few templates. You may thank Jill when it's 2 in the morning and those layouts are due to your client at 8 the next morning!
